Our respiratory system, for the most part, is controlled by the autonomic nervous system. However, there are times when compartmentalized emotion can alter one’s breathing. For instance, a strong compartmentalized emotion can make someone hold their breath or breathe faster (hyperventilate) for no apparent reason. When you are stressed, you tend to not breathe. When you have anxiety, you tend to breathe faster and more often, yet still feel short of breath. When you are depressed, you don’t care to breathe at all.
The respiratory system can also be compromised by the sheer tension in our nervous system, which is held in place by deep unconscious emotion. As you delve deep into the Kelee, your conscious awareness will uncover many stationary compartments that have been operating and compromising your health for a long time.
The term, breath of life, is very real. It is a known fact that most people do not breathe enough. There are also many lifestyle reasons for not breathing properly, such as a lack of self-awareness and sedentary jobs. There can be many reasons for this—study your own.
The autonomic nervous system may unconsciously function to assist you in maneuvering through life, but there is more you can do to be healthy. It is through the awareness of mind that the mind-body connection is realized and understood.
